Dead & Dangerous Oak Tree Removal

At A Level Tree Service LLC, safety always comes first. In Cherryville, NC, we recently completed a major project — the removal of a massive dead oak tree that had become a serious danger to our client’s home.

This oak stood nearly 80 feet tall and weighed more than 17 tons (about 35,000 pounds). Its structure had begun to fail, with huge branches weighing hundreds of pounds each ready to fall at any moment. The risk to the home was immediate and severe.

To make matters even more challenging, the tree’s core contained hidden metal rods that the oak had grown around over decades. These rods caused a serious internal infection and made cutting through the trunk especially difficult. The signs of this can be seen in the photos, where dark blue spots reveal the metal deep inside the wood.

The dead upper branches, weakened further by termite damage, were especially dangerous. Some of them weighed close to a ton and could have crashed through the roof without warning.

With just a two-person team, we carefully and safely dismantled the tree piece by piece. The project took over a week to complete due to delays caused by the embedded metal. Once the trunk was finally removed, we also ground down the stump, leaving the property safe and ready to enjoy again.

This Cherryville project is a clear example of why professional tree removal is so important. Dead and dangerous trees can hide unexpected hazards — from termite damage to metal buried deep in the trunk — and require the right equipment, knowledge, and patience to remove safely.​
